Workshop: “Digital Transformation and Financial Inclusion: Between Reality and Ambition”

The All of Us Creative Technology Development Organization, in partnership with the Technology Community Center for Training and Consulting, held a pre-conference workshop for the first conference on digital transformation in Yemen, titled “Digital Transformation and Financial Inclusion: Between Reality and Ambition.” The workshop was held under the patronage of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdulaziz Saleh bin Habtoor, Prime Minister, and His Excellency Eng. Misfer Al-Numair, Minister of Communications and Information Technology. The workshop was implemented in cooperation with ArtWay Office, on Monday, Safar 16, 1444 AH – September 12, 2022 AD, at the Recreation Club in the capital, Sana’a.

The workshop was attended by a number of influential figures in the government, financial, and technical sectors from various entities involved in digital transformation and financial inclusion, as well as those interested in this trend. The participants presented several proposals and recommendations that constitute a roadmap for achieving a serious digital transformation and enhancing financial inclusion.

Engineer Wafaa Taha Al-Ariqi, Executive Director of the organization, stated that the workshop is a necessary introduction to gather visions and, consequently, efforts to achieve solid and pioneering steps in the path of digital transformation and financial inclusion. The workshop contributes to shaping a unified general framework for all stakeholders to work through, and to push forward and move towards important and pioneering future horizons.

The workshop and its performance were well-received and praised by attendees and stakeholders, who saw it as an important opportunity and step toward a unified path that would contribute to a qualitative shift in efforts and their integration, which is fundamentally required.

Parties that attended the workshop:

The attendees were from several entities such as the Office of the President of the Republic, the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Communications, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Transport, the Economic Committee, the Information Technology Center in Higher Education, the Supreme Council for Humanitarian Affairs, the Association of Certified Accountants, e-learning, and others, and a number of banks such as the Bank of Yemen and Kuwait, CAC Bank, and Solidarity Bank, and from telecommunications companies, TeleYemen, Yemen Mobile, SabaFon, and U Company, and from electronic wallets such as the Flousk Wallet (Quality Connect Company), SabaCash, WeCash, and My Wallet, and technology companies such as Fastlink, SecureRoy, and Betasys, and applications such as E-Mahalat and Tasahil and other related entities

Some of the workshop outcomes were as follows:

Developing a national digital transformation strategy, a regulatory framework for leading and managing digital transformation, developing and implementing a financial inclusion strategy, encouraging investment in the digital financial services sector, enacting laws and legislation regulating digital transformation and facilitating implementation procedures for partners, developing infrastructure to accommodate the digital trend and its technological and security requirements, focusing on awareness, education, and upbringing to create a high-level digital culture, utilizing and supporting research centers for research and studies in these two fields, and other recommendations aimed at transforming the current reality of digital transformation and financial inclusion into a new, positive reality.
